Team Members

Steve Nicol

Steve Nicol of Lions Gate Consulting Inc. graduated from the University of British Columbia with MBA and BA degrees and is registered as a Certified Management Consultant with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants. His consulting background includes socio-economic analysis, economic development, opportunity and business development, strategic planning and community consultation.

His economics work has focused on assessing the impacts and implications of land, resource and marine plans, protected areas, resource development projects (forestry, mining, agriculture, energy, tourism), using a variety of analytical techniques including benefit/cost analysis, multiple accounts analysis and economic impact analysis. He has worked extensively with input-output models, and has appeared as an expert witness at panel hearings for resource projects engaged in the environmental assessment process.

Over the last 35 years, he has undertaken more than 100 economic development projects, covering baseline, economic base and cluster analysis, strategic plans, program development (for example, business, retention and expansion and investment attraction), organizational development, and performance measurement and evaluation.

He is an experienced project manager working directly with clients or as part of multi-disciplinary consortia, an adept technical writer and highly experienced in stakeholder consultations.

Randy Sunderman

Randy Sunderman graduated from the University of Victoria with a BA in Economics and a BSc in Biology. Randy has 25 years of consulting experience with a focus in economic development, socio-economic analyses, land use planning assessments, feasibility assessments, and business development. In addition, Randy has worked for the province of British Columbia in delivering economic development programs and assisting with program development and evaluation. Randy has also worked extensively with rural and First Nation communities on issues of economic and business development.

Randy has participated in over 80 assignments covering a range of topics and speicifc resource sectors over his consulting career. He is a former board member with Community Futures of Thompson Country, the Forum for Research and Extension in Natural Resources socio-economic working group, and the British Columbia Economic Development Association. He is a long time member of the Professional Economists of BC, a member of the Economic Development Association of Canada, and an associate member of the Council for Advancement of Native Development Officers.
